Befriending schemes offer lonely and isolated older or disabled people vital companionship and emotional support.
The type of befriending differs with each programme, but it generally involves volunteers or paid befrienders visiting you in your own home to provide companionship and may also involve transport provision, picking up medications, shopping, putting the bins out and other small jobs around the home.
One befriending programme that operates across East Sussex was developed by East Sussex Adult Social Care working with five community and voluntary organisations. Find out more on our Good Neighbour Scheme page.
